The Promised Son

Bible students realize the phrase “the promised son” could refer to more than one person. Abraham received a promised child that was fulfilled through Isaac (Rom 9:9). Hannah received the promise of a child that was fulfilled in Samuel (1 Sam 1:17). The Shunammite woman who made a room for Elisha was promised a son (2 Kings 4:16). However the promised son that matters is our Savior. The book of Genesis begins to reveal that there was a promised seed that would come through Eve.

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Abraham was told that in his seed all nations of the earth would be blessed (Gen 22:18). David also knew that the promised one would come through his seed. Peter spoke of this on the day of Pentecost.

Act 2:29-32 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. (30) Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; (31) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. (32) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

It came as no surprise to God that His promised son was rejected. This was his eternal plan. Prophecy showed that he would be lifted up on a cross. One need only read Isaiah 53 to see the clarity of vision God had of what would happen to Jesus. Despite fulfilling all the prophecies the scriptures revealed about the Messiah, many even of His own did not accept Him. Still today many will not accept that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. You need to be aware that there is salvation in none other than Jesus.

Act 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. (12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

You also need to be aware that Jesus is the mediator between you and your God.

1Ti 2:4-5 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Jesus has revealed plainly the Gospel, or good news, that informs you how to receive salvation through His name. We will leave you with what Jesus said in the book of Mark, but encourage you to read Romans 10 and other verses that we will address in future articles.

Mar 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
